Gill's 430 Fuels India's 1000 Run Feast

Birmingham, July 6: Shubman Gill etched his name into cricketing folklore with a monumental performance, powering India to a colossal team total on Day 4 of the Edgbaston Test against England.

Gill amassed a staggering 430 runs across both innings – the second-highest individual aggregate in Test history, trailing only Graham Gooch's 456. His epic knock included twin centuries (150+ scores), making him only the second batter ever (after Allan Border) and the first Indian captain to achieve this feat in a single Test.

His dominance propelled India to a mammoth 1014 runs – their second-highest Test total ever and only the sixth instance of a team surpassing 1000 runs in a Test match.

Further records tumbled:

Gill became the first Indian (and fifth overall) to be part of four century partnerships in a Test.

His 585 runs in the first two Tests of this tour is the second-highest ever for a new series in England.

He now holds the record for the highest tally by a captain in their first two Tests, surpassing Virat Kohli.

In another highlight, Rishabh Pant smashed his 24th Test six in England, becoming the most prolific visiting six-hitter in any single country, overtaking Ben Stokes in South Africa.
