Joby Flies First Dubai Air Taxis

Dubai, UAE | June 30, 2025 – Joby Aviation (NYSE: JOBY) achieved a historic milestone in advanced air mobility today, successfully completing the first series of piloted, wingborne flights of its electric air taxi in Dubai. This marks the official start of commercial market readiness operations ahead of planned 2026 passenger service.

Key Developments:

First Piloted Flights: Joby conducted multiple vertical-takeoff-and-landing (VTOL) flights in Dubai, a significant first for the eVTOL sector in the region, moving beyond testing into real-world operational readiness.

High-Level Endorsement: His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), witnessed the flights, underscoring Dubai's commitment to this transformative technology.

Vertiport Construction: In partnership with Skyports Infrastructure, construction is already underway on Joby's first commercial vertiport at Dubai International Airport (DXB), targeting completion in Q1 2026.

Exclusive Rights: Joby holds exclusive rights to operate air taxis in Dubai for six years under its landmark 2024 agreement with the RTA.

Strategic Partnerships & Vision:

Joby is working closely with Dubai’s RTA, the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA), and the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

"The United Arab Emirates is a launchpad for a global revolution in how we move," stated JoeBen Bevirt, Joby Founder and CEO. "Our flights... are a monumental step toward weaving air taxi services into the fabric of daily life worldwide."

H.E. Mattar Al Tayer emphasized the service will offer "smooth, fast, and safe travel," integrating with Dubai's broader public transport network.

Service Details & Benefits:

Initial Routes:
Service will connect Dubai International Airport (DXB), Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina, and Dubai Downtown.

Revolutionary Speed: A trip from DXB to Palm Jumeirah will take approximately 12 minutes, compared to 45+ minutes by car.

Aircraft Specs: The all-electric aircraft carries a pilot and up to 4 passengers at speeds up to 200 mph (320 km/h), with minimal noise and zero operating emissions.

These Dubai flights build on extensive hot-weather testing at Edwards Air Force Base and demonstrate Joby's growing operational capacity. With over 40,000 miles of flight testing and proven piloted transition flights, Joby moves closer to making "clean, quiet, and fast air travel an everyday reality."
