US Threatens India, China, Brazil Over Russian Oil

Washington D.C.: U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (Republican-South Carolina) has issued a stern economic warning to India, China, and Brazil. He stated that if these countries continue to purchase cheap oil from Russia, they will face severe consequences. Speaking on Fox News, Graham adopted a tough stance against those countries which are considered to be economically supporting Russia in the Russia-Ukraine war.'Blood Money' and Tariff Threat: Graham said, 'I would tell China, India, and Brazil—if you keep buying cheap Russian oil that keeps this war going, we will impose huge tariffs on you... and crush your economy because what you are doing is 'blood money.' His remarks indicate bipartisan pressure in the U.S. to economically isolate Russia.

Trump's 100% tariff warning: This warning aligns with former President Donald Trump's recent statements. Standing alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump said that if Russian President Vladimir Putin is not ready for a peace agreement within the next 50 days, the U.S. would impose a 100% 'secondary tariff' on countries buying Russian oil and gas. Trump stated, 'Our goal is not to impose more tariffs and sanctions - our goal is to force Putin to the negotiating table.' He described Putin as a 'tough guy' and said he had made previous U.S. presidents look 'foolish.'

500% Tariff Bipartisan Bill: Graham's threat is not alone. He and Senator Richard Blumenthal (Democrat-Connecticut) have introduced a bipartisan bill proposing a 500% tariff on countries that continue to purchase Russian energy. Blumenthal also mentioned on social media that this bill aims to prevent countries from 'fueling Putin's war machine.' Both senators argue that the purchasing by India, China, and Brazil is 'indirectly funding the war,' providing Russia with essential revenue.

India's stance and rising tensions: India has become a major buyer of oil from Russia since the start of the Ukraine war. India has always emphasized that its purchases are essential for energy security and economic stability. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has confirmed that Indian officials have discussed this proposed legislation with Senator Graham. These threats from the United States are now increasing pressure not only on Russia but also on its major trading partners. If a peace agreement is not reached within 50 days, the risk of a significant economic confrontation has emerged.
