Your Job is Probably Hurting Your Mental Health, and You’re Not Alone
If you’ve ever felt that Sunday night pit in your stomach or found your workday leaves you more drained than energized, you’re part of a overwhelming majority.
A profound shift is happening in the American workplace, and the latest data paints a stark picture: for a growing number of us, our jobs are actively harming our well-being.
For years, health experts have warned that chronic stress at work can lead to serious physical and mental health problems. Now, a new survey from Monster confirms that what many employees are feeling isn’t just a bad day—it’s a systemic crisis.
The 2025 Mental Health in the Workplace survey, which polled over 1,100 U.S. workers, reveals that toxic environments are becoming the norm, not the exception, and faith in employers to fix the problem is collapsing.
The numbers are jarring. A full 80% of workers now describe their workplace as toxic, a significant jump from 67% just last year.
Even more telling, a staggering 93% feel their employer isn’t doing enough to support their mental health.
This isn’t just grumbling; it’s a collective cry for help from a workforce that has reached a breaking point. The consequence is clear: more than half (57%) of employees say they would rather quit than continue to endure a toxic environment.
