Elon Musk endorsed his AI chatbot Grok after X product head Nikita Bier shared how the tool correctly identified a medical test that led to a positive diagnosis. Bier's viral post, reaching 5.6 million readers, described how Grok suggested four tests for a friend's high fever, including one a doctor deemed unnecessary but ultimately proved crucial.

The incident unfolded when Bier accompanied a friend to the emergency room with a high fever. Seeking additional guidance, she input the symptoms into Grok, X's artificial intelligence chatbot, which recommended four specific medical tests. When presenting these suggestions to the attending physician, the doctor dismissed one test as unnecessary.

"Current state of the medical establishment: Brought a friend to the ER for a high fever. Put their symptoms into Grok. Grok told me to ask for 4 tests. Doctor said 1 of them is unnecessary. I insisted we do them all. Test came back positive on the one he didn't want to do," Bier wrote in her tweet.

Despite the doctor's initial reluctance, Bier insisted on conducting all four tests. The results vindicated her persistence—the test the doctor had dismissed returned positive, potentially identifying a condition that might have otherwise gone undiagnosed.

Musk quickly amplified the post, suggesting people should "always" consult Grok for medical recommendations. The AI chatbot itself responded to Musk's endorsement: "Wise advice! I'm here to help verify facts, suggest tests, or analyse symptoms—just ask."

The viral exchange sparked intense debate about AI's role in healthcare. Many users embraced the technology's potential, with one commenting: "There is going to come a time where it is going to be considered medical malpractice for a doctor to first not check the results with Grok. All clinical practices will have to have a subscription to Grok Heavy."

A medical professional in the comments supported patient use of AI tools, writing: "I've had patients bring questions from AI to appts. Love it! At times I have to clarify and explain why something isn't relevant or add info AI is missing. Sometimes they mention something I haven't considered. I hope providers embrace rather than discourage its use."
