Rescue operations underway at Jhalawar government school as authorities order high-level probe into tragic incident

A roof collapse at Peeplodi Government School in Jhalawar district, Rajasthan, killed four children and injured 17 others on Friday morning. The incident occurred during class hours at the upper primary school in Manoharthana block, where 27 students were present. Several children remain in critical condition as rescue efforts continue.

The tragedy unfolded when the school's roof suddenly gave way, trapping students beneath debris. Teachers and villagers immediately began rescue operations, working frantically to pull children from the rubble before emergency services arrived.

"Four children have died and 17 others are injured. Ten children have been referred to Jhalawar, out of which three to four are critical," Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar told PTI. He confirmed that four of the injured children remain in critical condition.

Circle Inspector Nandkishore reported that two critically injured students were transferred to a specialized health center, while six others are receiving treatment at SRG hospital. The swift response from locals helped minimize casualties, though the scene remained chaotic as rescuers worked to ensure no child remained trapped.

Education Minister Madan Dilawar announced immediate action, stating, "I will get a high-level inquiry done to find out why this incident happened." He directed officials to rush to the scene and ensure proper medical care for all affected children.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed his grief over the incident, calling it "extremely sad and heart-wrenching" while instructing authorities to provide the best possible treatment for injured students. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also offered prayers for minimal casualties and speedy recovery of the injured.


School infrastructure safety has been a recurring concern in rural India, where many government schools operate in aging buildings with inadequate maintenance. This incident highlights the urgent need for regular structural assessments and timely repairs in educational institutions.
