Damascus, Syria – International condemnation followed Israeli airstrikes targeting central Damascus on Wednesday, including areas near the Syrian Defense Ministry and the Presidential Palace, leaving at least one dead and 18 wounded.
The strikes occurred amid heightened tensions in Syria's southwestern Suwayda province. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated the attack near the Defense Ministry came hours after demanding Syrian forces withdraw from Suwayda, where local Bedouin tribes and Druze fighters, viewed by Israel as potential allies, resumed clashes despite a brief ceasefire.
